A ‘care leaver’ is a young person who has previously been in care. If you were in care with us, we will support you because we are your ‘corporate parent’. The support you get will depend on when and how long you were in our care.

What are my rights and entitlements?

Am I entitled to support? To be entitled to the full support package in the ‘Local Offer’ you must have been in care for at least 13 weeks since the age of 14 – which must include some time when you were 16.

If you came into care after you were 16 and for a short time, you will still get support but not the full package. Your support will be based on what you need. This also applies if you lived with carers under a Special Guardianship Order before you turned 18.
